So last week I went to Florida. On the way to the airport I spotted a couple unicorns. First, in town I saw a GMC with Quadrasteer.
Further along I saw a Jag XJ6 or 12 on a truck chassis with mud tires. It was in a trailer park and pretty far off the road so I didn't get a whole lot of details. It was BRG and looked about like this one.
Pics from the internet because I was driving and couldn't whip out my camera and don't have a dash cam.

I had a buddy with a quadrasteer truck, says it was a pain the butt.

To drive or to fix? I can't wrap my head around how it would be more difficult to drive than a standard truck.

They didn't work alot of the time, and it was expensive to repair. He said it was really great to drive when it worked.

That is understandable. I wonder why every four wheel steering system ever is so unreliable?

Not too many in my area. In fact I would guess that one was from out of town. I usually see beaters with rusted out sides and no options.

Don't know. I suspect its the same story with hydraulic steering in extreme crawling rigs.

I wonder why the advent of electric power steering isn't bringing a resurgence of 4-wheel steering.
Hydraulic or hydro-mechanical systems are a pain and a mess to maintain...
But electric should solve most of that, especially for just a few degrees of rear steer assistance.

I see a Quadrasteer Sierra Denali whenever I look out in my driveway. It's my father's.
To be contrarian to Mr. HammerheadFistpunch, my dad has owned his Q-Steer Denali now for almost a year without any faults with the Quadrasteer system. He had to change the rear diff fluid recently, but you're supposed to do that every 10,000 miles. That's routine maintenance on these trucks. Sort of sucks because it requires a specific synthetic fluid, but that's how you avoid most problems with the system.
The only component really subject to fail on Qudrasteer GM trucks is the steering control module, and that's only because a few connections coming from the outside of the module are subject to corrosion. Cleaning the connections usually fixes most problems. The actual module itself is sealed and watertight, so it's rare anything in there gets messed up.
So the Qudrasteer system is brilliant. The instrument cluster on the other hand... Nope. GM stepper motors are fucking garbage.
